Himakar reviews a long poem, Comet Avataar, by Prof Sonjoy Dutta-Roy, published in our Webzine. Here’s an exclusive Different Truths Impact.

Prof.  Sonjoy Dutta -Roy has crafted the masterpiece of a poem, Comet Avataar.

Since time immemorial, whenever an Avataar descends on a planet, there is a protracted build-up of events leading to a flashpoint. The poet has given a vivid description of the rampage unleashed by Man on all manifestations of Mother Nature.

Since time immemorial, whenever an Avataar descends on a planet, there is a protracted build-up of events leading to a flashpoint. The poet has given a vivid description of the  rampage unleashed by Man on all manifestations of Mother Nature. It is this insensitive desecration that has ultimately provoked the present-day Avataar to assume the form of a Coronavirus.

Prima facie, the suffering public cannot see anything beyond its ruthlessness. But the poet pauses to delve deeper to uncover the hidden message it has to convey to Mankind. Comet Avataar is the price Man has to pay when he refuses to be sensitised to the imploring pleas of Mother Nature!

The poem is a literary delight with its beautiful rhyming. It is a journey through the pages of history. It poignantly reminds us of how green our planet was

The poem is a literary delight with its beautiful rhyming. It is a journey through the pages of history. It poignantly reminds us of how green our planet was and how our rapacious plunder warranted a timely but ruthless rebuttal from Nature.

Prof Dutta-Roy’s graphic description of the trajectory of the Coronavirus as an unstoppable comet hurtling across the sky is very gripping. In two powerful stanzas, he has practically summed up possibly all the overnight changes that have ripped off the protective cover that our comfortable lifestyles had been providing us so far.

In its hubris Mankind has all along taken Mother Nature for granted. The tandav and Calypso of the virus in our airways are ample proofs that Nature is indeed having its last laugh across different nations and cultures.

In its hubris Mankind has all along taken Mother Nature for granted. The tandav and ‘Calypso’ of the virus in our airways are ample proofs that Nature is indeed having its last laugh across different nations and cultures. And, it is a sadistic one at that!

Yes, Mankind has been through several such apocalypses and doomsday predictions. But, alas, public memory is short. The lessons of pandemonium are soon unlearned during days of prosperity and peace.

Let us hope that at least now the world will listen to the earnest plea of the poet.

“Teach us to move to the rhythmic beat of the pulse of the earth in symphony.” Brilliant in imagery! Extremely thought-provoking in its appeal!

It comes from the searing pain within the poet after witnessing the repeated gang rape of Mother Nature with modern technology as active abettors! The anguish of the poet is very palpable in his powerful narration.

The reviewer’s words “gang rape of Mother Earth” seem to be the trailer of the poem
