Death of the young actor, Sushant Singh Rajput, is mired in controversies. Skeletons are tumbling out of the cupboards. Here’s an analysis by Rekha, exclusively for Different Truths.

Just to give you an introduction, in this column, there are two dates and two titles. The first part was written immediately after Sushant Singh Rajput’s tragic death. I do not know if it was divine intervention, I somehow could not complete it. The second part is more relevant, and let us hope, sooner or later, we will get to the truth of this very unfortunate and tragic incident. Hope justice prevails.

As I began wondering, some questions that crossed my mind are:

• Where are we all aiming towards in life?
• Have we become so indifferent as a generation that we all want to live our very own individual lives?
• Don’t we have any responsibility towards our fellow beings in our society?
• Where is the camaraderie of Bollywood? Their silence is deafening!
• Isn’t there any love left towards one another?
• Has the rat race become so intense and fierce that we don’t care for others anymore?
• Are we truly the best creation of God?
• Is this the world we have brought our children into?
• Is this the inheritance that we want to bequeath?

In this time of difficulty, when the world is reeling under a pandemic, we are being welcomed every morning with such horrifying news that we are forced to introspect, reminisce and look back!

I must add here that he could have been stopped from taking the extreme step, had someone close or not so close been with him or talked to him.

I can’t understand why people want to live all by themselves. Why don’t they have a companion, a friend or someone with whom one can share their happiness or agony to some extent?

True friendship needs to transcend territories of pettiness. It should be deep and intense that sharing becomes as effortless as smiling or breathing. It needs to be an instantaneous reaction. For this to happen genuinely, relationships have to be concrete and more meaningful.

In the words of Oscar Wilde, “Ultimately the bond of all companionship, whether in marriage or in friendship, is a conversation.” If only he had conversed!

August 2, 2020, Now: The ‘Dead’ End

For the past few weeks, I have been following a few national channels since heated discussions and debates started gaining momentum into the mysterious death of Sushant Singh Rajput.

And I realise that my previous feature surely had a reason to remain unfinished!   A bright, young mind, with a wonderful life ahead, full of dreams and aspirations. But sadly, it was snuffed out, and as it unravels more, it seems to be taking shape of a well-planned murder.

I feel heavy in my heart, the more I think about this tragedy. A boy with a middle-class background, from a small town, made it big without any godfathers or big surnames. More importantly, he was a person with a plethora of curiosities. Walked tall, away from the normal, there was an element of uniqueness about him that was very charming. His interests were varied and that made him stand out from the rest.

What is more is the ease with which people, who claim to be his ‘good and close friends’, have this uncanny ability to remodel a well-orchestrated murder into a suicide, on the baseless grounds of depression!

It’s as simple as flipping a page of a notebook! Or is it that they think that nothing will happen to them. They are safe and protected. Please let them remind themselves, they are living in a fool’s paradise.

It appears that the woman in question is the most horrifying and dubious! She claims to be in a live-in relationship with the late actor and slips away from his apartment as well as out of his life within no time to take refuge among people, who give insensitive comments and opinions on social media about the cause of his death. And she did not leave empty-handed! She is also entangled in a financial fraud where a huge sum of money has been siphoned off from his accounts.

It is very upsetting to know that a woman can become so diabolical and cold that she can feign love and companionship only to make material gains for her and her family. She completely defeats the very essence of a woman. I think I am sounding pretty utopian in today’s time and age.

Here, I must add that there are some people, who have a serious issue when they comment that women are being ‘demonised’, ‘witch-hunted’ and so on.

I am more intrigued and I keep on asking myself that is it so easy to eliminate someone for one’s ulterior motives or own personal gains? If it is proved that he was indeed murdered, how could they be as unscrupulous and ruthless as to have strangulated him and then hang him to make it look like a suicide? It is absolutely spine chilling! These instances and incidents, as much as I can remember, we only saw in films or read in books. It was unheard of in real life. It is surely a case of the reel becoming the real!

Where are we heading to in terms of being the most superior of God’s creations? If this is it then I am certain that He must be bowing his head in shame and regretting his ultimate creativity. As years go by, we are proving to become the most intolerant, barbaric and homicidal in our mindset.

Who are we to decide about anybody’s life or the way in which one wants to live? Isn’t there a fine line between intrusion and privacy? Who gives us the authority to cross that line?

Too many questions, a multitude of thoughts throng my head and I feel helpless as I am not getting answers. This is just one of the many incidents that made it to the headlines, debates and enquiries. But there are so many that get lost in the obscurity of the other more important headlines. Is justice really served to all people? My earnest desire is that let justice be the supreme demand of the people.  Let the concerned authority make sure that no stone is left unturned in order to deliver justice not only to Sushant but every individual in this world. As someone has rightly said there is no virtue so truly great and godlike as justice’.

Does it seem like a very far fetched dream?
