Symphonies of Love, Longing, Monsoon and Memory

(A dedication to Mrinalini Devi)

The kindled love, wrapped in her burning core.
Rai wore the most exquisite adornments.
Carved by her tender feelings like never before.
Nurtured in the fertile land of her heart,
Rai wished to touch the Geetabitan and sing ‘Shraboner dharar moton’,
A Rabindra Sangeet, by the sparkling Kopai.

Her dimmed desires, the appalling but inevitable ends, those clutched feelings.
On the contrary, Rai faced the illuminating walls, the colours of marital bliss,
The giggles of beautiful children thereafter.
Rai was lost in the enigmatic walls of Jorasanko Thakurbari,
Yet she felt the burning pain trickling from her almond eyes.
Like those varied tunes that shaped a monsoon pour.

She gulped it all; she stood firm.
Not only sharing her name,
but also echoing the resilience of Goddess Radha,
When the great poet described her ardour in ‘Aji Ei Nirale Kunje’.
She was alluring because
Rai was a creation of Rabindranath Tagore.
