A dear friend of about three decades went through painful cancer treatment. After removal of organs she recently completed another bout of chemo. She is taking three weeks at a time when she receives her blood report that confirms her state of remission.

During the very hard journey, when the very family foundation was shaken, members rallied around her, daughters protected her from outsiders’ questions, her concerns about octogenarian parent, she turned to destressing, calming knitting, crochet, baking, arranging fruit displays; and then donated to charity. She has a lovely garden with flowers she waters. Anxiety; fear; physical; emotional roller coaster got poured into creating articles of beauty; compassion and comfort by her.

A high-school mate is passionately into model trains, which are not often heard of hobby in my circles. Some inherit it from a parent or grandparent at times, his love and fascination began as a child.

He grew into creating live models with scenic woods; farmlands; stations; people with trains moving on the tracks which are stunning during Christmas; Sankranti; Dussehra when culturally toys are displayed. It takes time, patience, research and material with money to realise this life-long passion.
