Here’s an evocative poem about the fears of an unwed mother – exclusively for Different Truths.

As an epiphanic light,
The realisation came,
How his thoughts have made
Me so ruefully lame.

Time is distilling in the form
Of regular day and night.
But for him, I hardly know
Any way of having delight.

Despite on the land, I find
Myself on an alien island,
Surrounded by guilt-ridden
Memories are turning into dreary sand.

Certainly, I'd kill−
My depressed, agitated visions
Before I would conclude
With my self-destroying decisions.

But is there someone too
Who moves in my womb?
Who is unaware that
Mother might be a tomb.

Oh! What if he or she comes
And asks for his or her father.
Innocent he or she is and
For him, excuses, I'd gather.

My child is me, my blood,
My emotions, my everything,
For whom I'd bear
All blasphemies or anything!

Like a fond mother, I'd live,
If not as a loving wife
Inhumanity is one of
The filthiest taboos of life.
