The Melody of the River…

An evocative poem about river likened to life journey, by Rekha. She conceived this while on her trip to Rishikesh in October 2014. An exclusive for Different Truths.

Sitting by the untamed, yet slow and shallow river, pristine,
Thanking God for such a blissful movement, so divine.
The legacy of the grandeur as it unfolds its long winding journey,
Among the difficult and easy terrain, weathers pleasant or stormy.

Telling us to live our life as it flows nonchalant and carefree,
Singing in melody as it romances with rocks in glee.
Getting into forms and shapes different and unique to each other,
Telling us that we all are special and different so not to bother.

Smiling and dancing forming bubbles, hugging with waves,
Singing melodies of life with wind and pebbles as it braves.
Making promises never to leave one another,
The river begins its journey with earth its loving mother.

Its everlasting mystique with the sun, stars and the moon,
And this sight to behold is our precious boon.
The gleam, the shine, the vibrant colours as it flows,
The essence of living and purpose in life it shows.

Sometimes slow and at times boisterous and fast,
It flows like a myriad of experience that is so vast.
In its best and worst, in silence and noise as it flows,
A lifelike ours, a mix of joys, turbulence and woes.

The river’s journey, a perfect blend of gentleness and might,
Like a small bird from its nest ready to take its maiden flight.
This is what I call the pleasure of divine influence,
As the river flows in gay abandon and absolute affluence.

Should I not learn life’s lessons from this journey of the river?
From it let the joy colour and strength in my mind simmer.
As it completes its life in abundance meeting with the ocean,
Praying that I too can end my journey in peace; with passion.
