Here’s an evocative poem about a caring dog and a villainous man, by Harinder, exclusively for Different Truths.

That day I returned late from work
The streets were empty, and it was pitch dark
I nervously started walking alone
I pretended to talk on the phone
A dog started following me
I started walking hurriedly
I was scared, and I trembled in fright
I thought he was about to bite
But I was attacked from the front
With an object big and blunt
I fell with a thud on the road
The villain had a smile broad
I could not see his face as the lights were dim
But I saw the dog pouncing on him
The dog chased the two-legged animal away
And came back to see if I was okay
As he licked the hands of this dame
I hung my head down in shame.
