Dr. Shikha pleads to stop hatred and dissension. Her poem on social issue was presented in an international seminar, welcoming Mexican poets, in Allahabad. An exclusive for Different Truths.

Out on the road in the dead of night,

Punctuated only by a lone street light,
I could see the walls and the holy gate.

Did they teach us love? Did they teach us hate?

They sang of peace, of brotherhood,

In notes that we all understood.
The octave was the same

Though each Faith had its name.
But now in me a resentment pounds
To hear those loud unholy sounds
Of the messages of hate
Like a river in spate
That drown our senses –

And we commit offences.
Haven’t we put the past to shame?

Shooting with words is the new game.
Of bloody hatred we’ve become the slave.

Where’s the gift of love our ancestors gave?
Blast the darkness! Break the chain!

Embrace every man once again.
