Spread the love

Nabanita explores the many layers of silence, in this evocative poem, exclusively for Different Truths.

Silence –

Of a mother’s love

As I wrap around your neck
amulet of a mother’s love
and sniff in the wisp
of your baby fragrance,
no words flow
yet two hearts beat
in a rhythm known.
In silence, I listen
to the falling away
of everyday dust
gathered around my tired heart.
In the breeze that washes over us
I find stories of comfort
and tales of a blind trust.

Of wisdom –

Words are restless.
But where they end,
begins the sea
of a deep silence –
more stable,
more voluble
than those spoken!
An old bottle of wine,
remembered, yet
left to strengthen
in the cellar of time.
Wiser in the know
of a listening ear,
a hand to hold
or a shaded grove.

Of a beloved –

Silence –
A monochromatic wait
for a patronus
to weave a magic charm.
Or an unopened letter
whispering a return.
Or some solace
in a comfort zone of
things left unsaid.

Silence –
the stolen kiss of lovers
where words no home find
that lives on in multiple shades
of dialogues incomplete.
Of the world –

Carpe diem ends
in a muted tongue
that once had popped words
like crackling popcorns –
butterly delicious
or utterly ridiculous.

Now it binds itself
in self-ordained exile
of a long sentence.
No que sera sera,
neither carpe diems
Only a silent time
that stands perfect still
ahead of hopeful eyes
in a silent vigil.
