A reflective poem, by Dr Gita, that dwells on the head-heart conflict, exclusively for Different Truths.
Dear emotions,
Please don’t come,
I have already grilled my heart,
Don’t like to be rude, but I had to do that,
I wouldn’t let you play,
Now my brain only has a say,
How hard you may try,
I haven’t forgotten my guttural cry,
I can’t put my heart on a pan to fry,
All the tears I already have stacked, making them dry,
I wouldn’t let them blow,
Neither would I flow,
Please my dear emotions,
Have mercy on me, and flow a little slow,
Please don’t scratch my wound,
It has a tendency to ooze,
Tippy toes when hiding you come,
In so many different forms,
With all your concern,
My heart still a naïve,
It doesn’t not realise,
It’s big a dumb,
It always moves with emotions,
But the moment I feel,
Immediately my heart I grill,
Like a child it try to escape,
Tightly I grab it back,
Given a chance,
A little bit of pat,
Like a kid, it would start,
Talking all about that,
Which is forbidden, and it should not,
So please don’t pat,
No pampering or anything like that,
Please dear emotions,
Now don’t bring any candies home,
Let my heart learn,
Or else it would drown me,
To suffocate till death and you can’t see,
Like a small child,
It would climb the hill,
It hasn’t know getting down still
It wouldn’t understand at all,
By the time it would suffer a great fall,
During that gradient roll,
Pain it can’t bear,
Anymore,
Already it is weak and injured,
It has suffered a lot more,
Beyond it could endure,
Now, my mind is coaching my heart,
What it needs to absorb all that,
To behave,
Not to fall, and injured coming back,
My dear emotion, please hold,
Till my heart acquire them all,
Heart is yet a toddler,
Let it learn
Walking strong,
Even being with the emotions,
Let it float superficially and slowly,
Drowning deep, it would choke completely,
Please don’t throw it into the whirlpool of emotions,
Inane heart would sink, it can’t overcome,
It can’t maintain, it hasn’t learnt yet how to sustain.
