‘Homosexuality’ in India is something that runs shudders down the backs of all orthodox Indians. Some take it as a crime, some take it as a curse to humanity, some take it as an unbelievable psychological ‘phase’, some cannot seem to take it as anything but an unacceptable consequence of being liberal and educated even though one’s feelings and an untouched topic like homosexuality has nothing to do with education. It is more about liberalism and freeing oneself to accept the idea or the fact that one is a homosexual and it is not something to be ashamed of or to hide. In my opinion, homosexuals should be more freely accepted in society and should not be looked down upon by several people, especially triggering the orthodox Indians.

We as liberal homosexual youngsters studying in schools tend to feel uncomfortable and are held under microscopes and teachers usually do not know what to do in this condition and often tell the parents to consult someone and try to manipulate the child into something they don’t want to be.

On September 6, 2018, homosexuality was decriminalised by the Supreme Court of India serving for the avoidance of bullying and violence against the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community. We as liberal homosexual youngsters studying in schools tend to feel uncomfortable and are held under microscopes and teachers usually do not know what to do in this condition and often tell the parents to consult someone and try to manipulate the child into something they don’t want to be.

We as an educated society tend to call ourselves liberal and transparent to all the opinions about day to day topics and analysis. But this topic of homosexuality still causes fear among most of the educated class even if they are not the ones going through it; even if they do they try to manipulate their feelings by continuously telling themselves that this is not who they are and it is just a phase. It drowns them into an ocean of what they call, ‘a disrespect to tradition’, it demands them to be a little more liberal and to stretch their acceptance horizons.

Homophobia is a big obstacle for the homosexuals to be at peace.  They make them feel unwanted, unaccepted, abnormal and under-confident, which leads them to depression, anxiety and various other consequences of not being accepted by the society just because of some imaginary beliefs and compressed liberalism.

There is always something that always resists something great, be it education, wealth, socialism, democracy, liberalism, heterosexual and homosexual love, anything. In the case, it seems to be the self-constructed barriers of nonacceptance and blinding criticism. Homophobia is a big obstacle for the homosexuals to be at peace.  They make them feel unwanted, unaccepted, abnormal and under-confident, which leads them to depression, anxiety and various other consequences of not being accepted by the society just because of some imaginary beliefs and compressed liberalism.

It is essential for us as a society to protect all sorts of individuals and not try to manipulate them and blame them for it, because they really can not get themselves to help this situation of love and fear, compressed under the shadows of orthodoxy, homophobia, non-acceptance, fear, self-deprivation, hate and procrastination.
