The Right Time

A sad love poem about clubs, parties, a lover’s attention and departure by Mohini, exclusively for Different Truths.

One day when I’m sick of the clubs,
The blaring lights on an evening road.
Honey, please understand the difference
Between moonlight and man’s spit of photons.
When I can’t gulp my sorrows with alcohol,
When the chatter of the people becomes a blast of speakers
When the anticipation will lie in long nights of endless laughter
And not in a pub with a room full of people that don’t matter
When your hand is the only direction, I need
When your smile is etched in the back of my mind
Your smile feels like a ray of warmth on a chilly winter eve
The games that you play with me
The ones I brush off in the role of a naïve partner
Your innocent worries of my unfailing fall
Your naïveté to run in this social race that’s just in your mind
You, my armour, and my enemy
I’ll follow you until the dawn sets on us
But if I leave, know that you chose time against me.
