the nest vacant

An evocative poem about life and nature, by Dr. Molly, exclusively for Different Truths.

the birdlings
           have left
the nest
           vacant
hanging in the
           air...
no more
           flutters...
no more
           chirpings
of the
mother bird,
            no more
cooings
           flustered
           movements
within...

how can
           life ebb out
so sudden?

even yesterday
           there came
cheery ripples
           from within
I watched
           enjoyed
unintrusive...

time turns
           ripe, in moments
of its own
           choice...

the lilly
           that sprouts
from the
           barren,
the leaf
          that falls
in the wind
          wayward...
