The Holy Bard of the East

Harinder pays her homage to Tagore as a sage-poet, on his 160 th birth anniversary, in the
a special feature, exclusively for Different Truths.

The sage of sages, the poet of poets
The God of words, the holy bard of the East
The scholar, the storyteller, the painter,
The philosopher or just a humble priest
You were not just a man of letters,
But an apostle of peace, born to make this world better
You dared to talk about a fearless mind
About reason and truth in fearful times
You celebrated freedom when none was there
Through verses, rhymes, and a mind without fear
You could look beyond the times,
Unified the world through the rhymes
A walking temple of knowledge, an ocean of Literature
The Nobel Laureate, a world figure
The creator of the National Anthem, ‘Jana Gana Mana’
Your presence can still be felt in Shantiniketan.
 Gitanjali, Sonar Tari, Kabuliwalla, Manasi
Your words heal the souls even beyond the seven seas.
A timeless soul from eternity to eternity
 Your messages will always guide
The world through your art and poetry
As a poet, whenever I read your works and words,
I feel as if I have entered my Lord’s abode
Long live the soul, who wrote on the sands of time
Your thoughts profound with the ink sublime.
