Political Polarisation Intensifies: Opposition Demands Privilege Motion against Smriti Irani

The Union HRD minister, Smriti Irani, has been accused of misleading the Parliament willfully by three major Opposition parties, Congress, CPI(M) and JD(U). They are polarising to press for privilege motion against her.

The suicide of Rohith Vemula, the Dalit student of the Hyderabad Central University (HCU), has intensified political polarisation in the country. Three major opposition parties, the Congress, CPI(M) and JD(U) raised the decibel and said that they would bring privilege motion against the Union HRD minister, Smriti Irani.

The three opposition parties maintained that Irani willfully misled the parliament during a debate on JNU and HCU controversies on Thursday.

Congress leader Mukul Wasnik said that soon the party would bring privilege motion in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, while the CPI(M) leader Mohd. Saleem said that he would be giving a notice for breach of privilege against Irani to the Lok Sabha Speaker, Sumitra Mahajan, on Monday.

The JD(U) leader, K.C. Tyagi, too reiterated that he and the nominated member KTS. Tulsi would press for privilege motion against the Union HRD minister to the Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari on Monday. He added that the contradictions in several statements of Irani, in the Rohith Vemula suicide, made it a fit case of breach of privilege.

The opposition parties are polarising against the BJP, accusing it of being anti-Dalit.
