Muslim leader Asaduddin Owaisi, former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren and senior leaders and two MPs of Maharashtra have openly supported the formation of Third Front.

Bahujan Samajwadi Party leader Mayawati is walking the tightrope between an alliance with Congress and a direct fight with the BJP. Her decision to enter into an alliance with HD Deve Gowda’s JD(S) in Karnataka is considered to be a part of this strategy. The Congress had earlier approached her for an alliance, but she refused. Now BSP is not fighting the by-election in UP. According to senior BSP leaders, Behanji does not want to fight with the BJP and provoke it in view of the many CBI cases she is facing. Her new game plan seems to be to capture the Dalit votes from Congress. That is why she does not want an alliance with Congress.

BJP CM Nominee Yeddyurappa is Past Retirement Age

Narendra Modi has endorsed Karnataka BJP leader B.S. Yeddyurappa as the party’s chief ministerial candidate in the forthcoming assembly elections. But curiously, Modi’s selection is not in conformity with his own stated policy that 75 should be the age of retirement for party leaders. Yeddyurappa turned 75 on February 27.

Rajiv Man Blamed for Poor Congress Show in North East

Congress workers are complaining that C P Joshi, who is the incharge of the party’s North East unit seldom met local leaders during his rare visits to the region. A close confidant of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Joshi is being blamed for the failure to forge an alliance with Mamata Banerjee’s TMC in the recent elections to the northeast states, which saw the party routed in two states.

Shinde may be Rajya Sabha Candidate in Maharashtra

Reports say Congress may nominate Sushil Kumar Shinde for its lone Rajya Sabha in Maharashtra when elections are held on March 23 for six seats. Presently, the Congress and the NCP hold one seat each while the BJP and Shiv Sena share the remaining. Others names in the discussion are of Ratnakar Mahajan and Prithviraj Chavan while Shiv Sena is expected to renominate Anil Desai.
