Letter Writing is a Defunct Art

Basudeb tells us about the art of letter writing, in this poem, exclusively for Different Truths.

Nobody finds any artistry in letter writing,
It is a neglected art in present time,
What is it? A message, sentimentalism relaying?
Through a snail mail, a prose piece, boring.

Keats’ letter to Fanny Brawne was a poem,
Each letter to her shows Keats’ artistic sensibility,
Nehru’s letters to Indira Gandhi,
Till date earning readers’ acceptability.

Hemingway’s love letters to Marlene,
His mode of imploring love to her,
Was unlike the sexting,
We find in today’s love mailing.

We all belong to the digital age,
Email, Gmail, Rediffmail and Hotmail,
All is a supersonic Concord mail,
We now prefer to this mode with no fail.

Not that, I am nostalgic,
Of this petty pizza thick,
What is sacrosanct,
In future, that may be defunct.
