Kushal explores the depths of human solitude and nature’s quiet rhythms in this evocative poem on DifferentTruths.com.
From the depths of darkness
my black, hirsute pet tries to
rescue me with her soft meowing.
I hear the crickets' finale
and the rooster's overture.
The land has sent termites
to disintegrate and take back
what belonged to the land.
My neighbour's insomniac
daughter stands still on the roof.
Her long-dissolved childhood
is a bear in her tight hug.
I fill up a bowl. The air is an ocean.
I dare to touch the bottom
and the sand within.
