Women Demand Freedom

A protest poem by Sutputra in Solidarity with women’s liberation movements around the world – exclusively for Different Truths.

no choice – no freedom!
no freedom – no life!
the words of women echoed
breaking the buildings
smashing the prisons
showing middle fingers
to the morality army
that dictates to the river
the direction it should flow
and punishes her
for exploring tributaries
where her heart goes
in the name of a god
that no one has seen
but he happens to be a man
nevertheless
