Beautiful. These two thought provking lines sum up the present scenario of man induced activities due to which many bird species have vanished and many are on the verge of extinction. Alas! In the name of development man is hell bent on destroying everything that Nature has bestowed on him to live in harmony .
The size of the Kingfisher as well as the poem (micro)may be small but the meaning and weight of the message is heaviest lurking on us all to look for answers and solutions, as the disaster (shrinking empire) is entirely man-made.
