Navratri: Nine Avatars of Ma Durga

Harinder invokes nine avatars of Durga in reverence to the Mother Goddess – an exclusive Special Feature for Different Truths.

Navratri and the nine avatars of Ma Durga
A time of celebration, the days of Pooja
Of the different forms of One deity

Who on the first day is worshipped as the Shailaputri
The daughter of the Mountain God, it is the rebirth of the Sati
On the second day, she is the female ascetic or the Brahmacharini
She prays to the Gods to be united with Lord Shiva again as his Parvati
With a half-moon on her forehead, on the third day, she is Chandraghanta
Ready to fight the demons. She’s in a blessing posture, Abhayamudra
The fourth form of Goddess Durga is Kushmanda,
A symbol of warmth and energy

The Creator of the Universe, also known as Adi Shakti
Carrying Kartikeya on her lap, her fifth form is Skandamata
Her sixth form is Katyayani, the Warrior Goddess
Mounted on a lion, her eight arms hold different weapons
Kalaratri, the destroyer of darkness and ignorance,
In her seventh form, she’s on a donkey
This is her most violent form
When she is also known as Kali
Mahagauri, in her eighth form,
Mounts a white elephant or a bull
The four-armed deity carries
A damru and a Trishul
In her ninth form, she is the provider of Siddhis
And is called the Siddhihatri.
Her nine forms are the nine stages
During the nine-day war with Mahishasura,
I bow in reverence to all the forms of Ma Durga
Worshipped during the Navratri.
