Volcanoes: A Dormant Scream of the Oppressed

A social commentary and a powerful protest poem, by Shernaz, exclusively for Different Truths.

there is this scream
dormant, suppressed
in the collective psyche
of the oppressed

there is resentment
that gnaws furtively
at the edgy endurance
of an always empty belly

embers burn eternal
under the vestiges
of torched freedom
and slaughtered justice

they form the mush,
in the magma chambers
of potential human Etnas
and latent Mauna Loas

Devastation! Untold devastation
when tectonic shifts occur
and molten fury explodes
distraught humanity’s brittle crust

  • I can only say, woh sub-ha kabhie to ayegi… the world will wake up to that dawn some day. The dormant scream will lead to tectonic shifts…this dream won’t let the dreamers sleep…it will come true. Amen!

  • Sorry for this delayed response, Swaraj Raj. It seems like hope is all that is left to us and we must cling on to it. I really wish there was no need for such poems. Thank you for being here and appreciating.
