Serendipity

An evocative love poem by Nilakshi for Different Truths.


It was a year or two before 
That I felt that sense of being left out 
That abnegation… 
When the favourite colour of sky was what I started watching, cerulean … 
Less than dark at midnight 
Not quite as light as dusk 
When I lay awake beside you
As you turned your back and slept 
With a sense of peace and quiet 
And I turned to sift through your playlist 
Of eclectic stuff … 
ghazals and hip-hop, 
Bauhaus greats and 
Baul strains
And I found it was your mind 
That I loved the most 
Not you, not the man you were 
But how you thought… 
How you  
Chose your music 
Read your  books 
Played those notes
Cared for the flowers 
That’s when I knew 
It was serendipity 
That I found you 
Waiting across time zones 
Over the raging sea.

  • Loved it. It kind of resonated with me. I always believe we fall in love with a thought process, with the beautiful mind one possesses. Looks just initiates the attraction part of love
