Alienation

A poem about depression among women by Sarala, exclusively for Different Truths.

Why was Sheila alienated

From the society?

Give me an answer!

This mental health disorder

Are gripping children to

Youth to old age!

Ever since she has been

Diagnosed with depression

She is mocked at

And not allowed to attend

Any celebrations as she is

Dressed not well and shying away

From outside world!

She is unable to sleep

Nor concentrate on her work

No interest in dressing up

Nor go out!

She would sit quietly in her

Darkroom looking blank!

Nothing is working in her brain

And negativity controls her

Very being

Not able to enjoy anything

Nor can she smile at any joke!

Isn’t time we wiped out

The stigma of various mental

Disorders which are handicapping

Many!

If you are a human instead of

Alienating the person

Take her or him to a psychologist

And get them treated by professional

Psychiatrists and help her get out

Of her gloom caused by the illness and alienation from

The society which is destroying her slowly but surely!
