What Does the Jukebox Say?

In a reflective piece, Nayonika, a teenager, takes up issues of her generation. A Different Truths exclusive.

My hair swing to the air, as I dance up and down. The moments slowing down, the music flowing through my heart’s rhythm.

The sudden realisation of how there is one life to live and how we will never be younger than what we are at this very moment.

The jukebox played one of my old favourites and he, stood there, joining into my madness.

I could feel the rush of chemicals running down my nerve endings. I finally felt free. My feet left the ground, making me fly to the infinity and beyond. Due to the obligation of the laws of Physics, it made me land back, right onto my initials.

I closed my eyes and stared into the millions of black spots, each spot containing millions of other more, formed, deformed blots.

As the gravity centred on me, I could hear my heartbeat; it went at a slower pace than normal; two times of two analysed my subconscious, between the talks of my heart and head. I closed my eyes and stared into the millions of black spots, each spot containing millions of other more, formed, deformed blots.

I have a smile on my face, like I finally have a reason to know what sadness feels like and how it is what makes me feel so overwhelmed at the moment.

Not too complicated, not too primitive I seem to be. The point is how there is so much life left in me; in us, that it is crazy to even realise how we focus so much on what is gone, we don’t realise what the sudden struck of reality is letting go of.

Every second passes by, as I trip into my own steps, and use my dynamics to express the lightness I feel.

I open my eyes. I have the same emotions, the exact same mentality but with just a little addition to colours; bright yellow, navy blue, green, cherry red, crimson; the possibilities were infinite, and their definitions were limited.

The couloirs through which we slide on, having to fall on the paths we chose to cross over, trusting our experience…

Limited that somehow seems to be finite to our world. The couloirs through which we slide on, having to fall on the paths we chose to cross over, trusting our experience because yes, you might have been caught rash driving, crashing into rocks, but you will learn the path slowly, because after we fall, we go back to square one.

I choose.

You choose.

We choose our finite number. Be it one, be it two-point-three-two, be it the largest digit you can think of this very second, but it should be your own. You might not reach your goal at the first try, you may even fail multiple times but there comes a time again when you choose your possibility, right from square one, and that’s how you become wiser.

That is how you become stronger.

One step at a time; me on my own chosen path of light, and you on yours.

Let’s cross the borderline at our own paces.

I will meet you at the finish line.

On your mark, Get set,

Let the race begin!
