India is on the verge of a huge quantitative and qualitative energy transition. Given the vast size of its population and economy it’s crucial for the rest of the world. An Energy business school is being set up. A four-day programme, in mid-November, in Mumbai, will address energy issues. A report.
The energy choices of India may decide the fate of the Earth.” ~ Charles C Mann.
When it comes to energy, the eyes of the world are on India. Five years from now the South Asian super state will be the most populous country on earth. Add to that a rapidly developing economy, and one sees the recipe for an exponential growth in energy demand.
The challenge to meet this demand is already vast, even more so if it must be met in a clean and sustainable fashion. Surely this requires a huge quantitative and qualitative Indian energy transition. A transition that is not only crucial for India itself, but given the vast size of its population and economy, also for the rest of the world, stated a press release.
As an energy business school that finds its origins in both the business and academic world, Energy Delta Institute is proud to announce its new branch, EDI India, which can offer India much needed knowledge and best practices applications. Deeply rooted in Europe’s most liquid gas markets and the advanced renewable energy ‘testing ground’ of North Western Europe, EDI India can offer top of the shelf energy training programmes. Together with its extensive network of experts, EDI India can pass on the energy industries and policies best practices to one of the world’s most dynamic growth regions, thereby contributing to the Indian energy transition, it was informed.
EDI India’s Managing Director, Anja Hulshof, and Vice President Innovation, Bert Stuij, officially launched EDI India during the press conference at Hotel Sofitel, Bandra, Mumbai and announced the Joint Excellence Programme, according to the press release.
Joint Excellence programme
Against this background the EDI India announced a Joint Excellence Energy Programme, specifically designed to address this Indian energy transition. The four-day programme will be run in close collaboration with the International Energy Agency, the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, Nyenrode Business University, and a variety of Indian energy experts. It offers a unique opportunity for Indian energy professionals to hear the insights from these renowned organisations in an Indian context, stated the release.
Programme structure
During the second day, two specific ‘focus themes’ that are very relevant for India – the gas sector developments, and the power sector developments, shall be analysed. Developments on natural gas will be introduced by the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, which keeps a close watch on India. The Indian power sector developments will be addressed by experts from India. The day will closes with a workshop, where participants design their own, optimised, Indian energy system, it was informed.
The third day will look into the crucial prerequisites for the energy transition – policies and finance.
Nyenrode Business University shall continue on the fourth day, by discussing new business models, leadership and strategic decision making. Clearly, the transition offers plenty of business opportunities, but it is key to make best use of them. The course ends with an ‘India Energy Forum’, where various experts will share their views on the Indian energy future, including its policy and financial dimensions, inviting course participants to take part in the discussion. The programme will take place in Mumbai, India, from November 14 -18, 2016, according to the release.
