In the world we live in today, success has become very subjective. “Those who already have, seem to be getting more and those who don’t have, seem to struggle to get even basics right.” This is kind of true in all aspects. Those who have money tend to make more money easily, those who have enough luck seem to keep getting more. They are luckier. There is a difference, what we feel is only psychological.  It is this feeling that we get out of sheer greed. You want to know how it feels to be in a position the other person is in.

As a human, it is not possible for you to not have those feelings, but you should realise that this feeling can be controlled and that can be diverted with practice.

There is no mantra for being successful easily, ‘strive and succeed’ this is something I learned at school. Our school motto used to be “Study, Strive and Succeed”. This is true for every phase in our life and not just in school.

To be successful in what you do, the first thing you need to avoid is comparing yourself with someone else. That someone may have been successful, may be lucky or may be your role model, but that does not mean that you compare yourself with them.

This is where you study. Learning, what methods they use, how they became successful, what you will have to do to bring about success. This phase of learning is fuelled by a lot of experiences and practice. Unless you are prepared to get your hands dirty, getting better will look very far. Working on with faith in yourself, positive attitude and practical understanding will help you become wiser and take you closer to the goals you want to achieve.

I would like to tell a story of a young sales man who was working in a counter where there were a couple of aggressive sales men who were selling competition machines. This person had a tough time. Always not able to convert sales as the other two would pitch and lure the customer on to them. What our hero did not realise was the fact that they would play a tag team game. Those two would synchronise with each other and lure customers and share the spoils. This person comes reaches out to his leaders to help him, either get out of there or he may never be able to make the targets being set for him. This is when a friend of his tells him to start mingling with the others and start learning what they do best. He realised out of observation that they had excellent product knowledge and their pitch with the customers was so good that they could easily get customer convinced, he realised that they have a flow but the flow had a flaw, those boys always sold what they wanted and at times the customers either got something more than what they wanted or sometimes less than what they wanted and only sometimes there was a match. So, this hero starts to practice his new pitch, he tries to get the customers to talk more and try and get them the best fit. It took him time but it won him a lot of customer admiration. That was the start of a different life for him.

What we realise from the story is that he did not only learn the positives, he also learned the shortcomings and worked out a way to address it. He then works hard on getting his pitch right and finally succeeds by doing more numbers than the other two.

Sometimes in life, we tend to concentrate so much on what we don’t know and forget what we have already learned and failed in application. We need to keep our eyes and ears open. Knowing everything will only help create the road map to success.

This hero of the story is now an Area Manager managing multiple outlets. It was just a change of attitude that helped him.

Our time we spend on learning and preparation will only help strengthen our position, this strength is important to create a positive outcome. The multiplication of these positive outcomes leads to success.

Success is measured differently by every individual. It finally boils down to the level of ambition. The mark of all successful people in life is those who have failed and did not let failure pull them down. They have all got their hands dirty, they have always been positive, they have sacrificed a lot for the ambition they had and they are all good people.

Think of ten names of people in life you admire, you will realise that they have these characteristics in common. Study these people, see what they did well and what they did not, learn what you want to from them and try using it in your day to day life. You will notice a dramatic change; this change will be majorly in how you feel and nothing else. The positivity around you will increase.

There is one more thing that you need to know. The most common thing about people who have become very successful in life is that they visualised themselves being in that position and aimed towards getting there, they never lost this vision and that drove their ambition.

Visualise what you want, think of all the minute details and then focus your energy on dealing with things. This vision should never be left to fade, it has to only get sharper and clear as HD. I am on this path and I have not given up on my dreams.

I never realised that I would write one day. Though I was qualified to be a journalist, I choose a different career and never really got to writing, today I am in a position to live that dream because I never lost that vision of what I want to do, piece by piece they seem to be falling in place. As I get my pieces in order, go get yours in place.

Start visualising what you want to achieve and then “Study, Strive and Succeed”.
