They don’t like me
because I don’t lick their boots,
I won’t bow, won’t cower,
or do their cute, cute hoots.
They don’t like me
because I question the plan,
I ask too many "why’s,"
and I’m no Yes-man.
They don’t like me
because I speak what I think,
"That's just how it is"—
well, I’m on the brink!
They don’t like me
because I say what I mean,
I don’t play the game
or keep my smile "serene."
They don’t like me
because I don’t laugh at their jokes,
Which are basically just
recycled corporate hoax.
They don’t like me
because I don’t "fit in" with the crew,
I’m allergic to sycophants—
and their fake "I love you”.
They don’t like me
because I’m not desperate for clout,
I’ll take the truth,
even if it makes them pout.
But you know what?
I’m fine with their scorn,
I’ll keep being me
while they’re still so forlorn.
So go ahead, whisper,
and roll your eyes,
And plot my demise,
I’ll be over here living my truth!

internationally, including in Malaysia, the University of Vienna, the
Dominican Republic, and Bangladesh. Recognised as the Female Voice
