Forgetting

A prayer-poem by Lipsa, expressing her yearnings and wishes, exclusively for Different Truths.

The butterfly-winged fairy dancing on a red gerbera fades
Insidious blankness pervades the projection screen
Yet an insistent white glimmer flickers in the centre
An instant takes the clouded mind to our green meads:
Stop this consuming pain now! Drown these memories
In the ignorant waters of Lethe. I am come, my Lord.

When I was in Paradise, I wished for mortality
When I had mortality, I wished nothing but union with you,
My Lord: A strange bliss this luxuriance that keeps fading:
In vain your Eternity, for this pain shall fade and seek anew
New pits to fall into – now that I have come here –
Deeper and harder the next and the next Fall.

Will you help me down the steps, sir? – The water scares me so.
Should I take my heels off? And the remaining shreds
Of my past existence: do they stay or go?
When I emerge fresh and clean, will you take me to bed?
Will you sing me a fairy song so I drift to the meads
For a last and final slumber?

  • I don’t know, but, your choice of words simply fascinates me. Kind of draws me in.
It starts quite Victorian, intertwined with Greek mythos and yet ending with a question. (These are my opinions, may not be the actual meaning of this piece of literature)
    I loved it.

    • Jyotiprkash Dash, your evaluation is pretty accurate. Thank you for taking the time to read the poem and posting a thoughtful comment. Thank you very much.
