Celebrity Marriages are ending: Is the Media Evil?

Why are we becoming a society of stalkers? Why is the media feeding us personal stories of celebrities? It is a question we all need to ask ourselves. We are all guilty of relishing in the negative news about celebrities. Nikita takes a hard look at the media, rather a section of it that aggravates sour relationships, in the weekly column, exclusively in Different Truths.

Marriage is a promise for a lifetime. You vow to another person to spend the rest of your life with him or her. When we are talking about marriages in the glamour industry, cupid’s arrows strike repeatedly. Blame it on fame, beauty or luxuries, falling in and out of love come easy in the film industry. What makes it worse is the constant eye of media on a celebrity’s life. The media is quick to jump to conclusions; they are constantly stalking the private lives of the celebrities.

Bollywood couples face the adversities of divorces, infidelity, blame game, and break ups quite often. Here are few fairytale romances that ended up sour. Hrithik Roshan and Suzzane Khan have been childhood friends and tied the knot after years of courting each other. A few years later, their two sons had to face the harsh reality of parents being separated. Arbaaz Khan and Malaika Arora had to face the similar devastating truth about their broken marriages. Be it the Deepika-Ranveer love affair, Kangana-Karan controversy or Anushka-Virat relationship, the media – rather a section of it – couldn’t have been more evil in aggravating the whole situation.

Why are we becoming a society of stalkers? Why is the media feeding us personal stories of celebrities?

It is a question we all need to ask ourselves. We are all guilty of relishing in the negative news about celebrities. I was shocked to read news about Shah Rukh Khan’s youngest son. The media announced that the youngest child of Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri was actually a love child of the eldest son, Aryan. It is not only the celebrities but their families receive a setback when the media makes assumptions about the lives of the celebrities.

Divorces are not easy to handle, especially for couples who have been together for over a decade. The role of the media is to spread awareness not create chaos in our society.

Think.

The media is the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that is power. Because they control the minds of the masses – Malcolm X

“Whoever controls the media, the images, controls the culture,” said Allen Ginsberg.
