A protest poem, by Sutputra, that talks of identity, politics and fanaticism, exclusively for Different Truths.

If they ask you your name
don’t say it

trust me
they don’t want to know

when they ask you that question
they want to know
the religion you practice
the ethnicity you belong to
the language you speak
the caste you are born to

your name is not just a name
but a history

it’s like a resume
that tells fundamentalists
to execute you
