Mahua Maharana did her M.A. in Modern History from Calcutta University. She was an insurer for 22 years before taking voluntary retirement from service to pursue what she wanted to do. From Kolkata she landed up in a remote village in Ganjam, Odisha with her dog and started working with the villagers. She now stays in Bhubaneswar with her husband, daughter and dog, volunteers with Bakul Foundation and works freelance as a translator and ilk.
