Himakar Tata, opted for voluntary retirement after serving in  the Indian Railway Traffic Service cadre for 20 years, in 2005, as Chief Passenger Transportation Manager, South Western Railway. He wrote a column for the Times of India and a travelogue for The Hindu, after his retirement. He visited 49 countries and recoded his travel notes on Facebook. He is associated with NGOs and stays in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India.
